Her arrows are Carbon Force STL Hunter 100’s , cut at 25.5 inches, fletched with 3 blazer vanes and a 75 grain tip. Her total finished arrow weight is 280.3 grains. Her draw length is 25″ and right now she’s shooting it at 30lb draw weight. The Chaos shot 201 to 203 consistantly thru the chronograph. Not too bad I thought considering her arrows are 130 grains over the IBO minimum 5 grain per lb arrow weight!

The PSE Chaos has a factory rated IBO speed of 289 and it’s figured at 27″ draw length (which is the maximum length it can be set at), and using 5 grains per lb arrow weight. Assuming that she loses 10 fps for each inch of draw length that is decreased, she has lost 20 fps due to her 25″ draw length. Also for every 30 grains of arrow weight you add you lose about 10 fps, so by her being 130 grains heavier she has lost another 43 fps or so. If she shot a 27″ draw length and her arrows weighed in at 150 grains for her 30lb weight she would be getting around 263 which would fall 26 fps short of the Chaos 289 IBO speed rating.

I think that this bow will do every bit of it’s factory speed rating and that some of that 26 fps loss could be made up by replacing the whisker biscuit with a dropaway rest. I am also pretty sure that the mongoose peep I installed with the rubber aligning tube, and the rubber catwhisker string silencers I added, can also account for some of the speed loss as well. We are about ready to crank the limbs on down to the 40lb peak weight, and most bows are most efficient at their peak weight anyway, and at 40lbs she will only be 80 grains over IBO on arrow weight which should pick her up another 15 fps or so. Doing that should boost her kinetic energy from the 25lbs she has now to around 30lbs.

My plans are to add on a string suppressor and lose the cat whiskers, replace the whisker biscuit with a good drop away rest, and try to get her speed up to where she can get around 35lbs of kinetic energy at least. As long as she keeps her shots within reasonable range, waits for good broadside or quartering away shots, she should be fine using the 85 grain Magnus Stinger Broadheads.

All in all I believe that the Chaos will do everything that PSE claims it will do and maybe more with a little tweaking. One things for sure, we are gonna keep playing with it and find out!

Michele’s been shooting the Chaos every other day now and she’s gettin’ pretty good with it. This is a great little bow and it’s definitely not a toy! She’s actually just been learning and getting a feel for the bow. We are about ready to back her on up to some longer yardage’s and get started with some some serious shooting practice.

Even though the Chaos package comes with everything needed to shoot I plan on changing a few things on it for her. I already installed a different peep sight on the bow. The one that came on it was a shurz-a-peep and she couldn’t see very clearly through it. I installed her a PSE Mongoose peep with the rubber tubing alignment and she likes it a lot better than the peep that came on it.

I also want to add a string suppressor to help silence the bow more. Even though it’s pretty quiet already with the rubber silencer’s I hope to be able to remove them off the string once I get the suppressor installed. At her low poundage and draw length she needs all the arrow speed she can get, so I want as little weight on the string as possible.

Also I plan on gettin’ her a new custom string and cable set from VaporTrail or Winner’s Choice. The stock string and cable’s are ok but since she really likes shooting I figure that quality aftermarket string and cable’s is the way to go to make sure once we get everything set it stays set. More time spent shooting and less time spent tuning!

I also plan to scrap the Whisker Biscuit rest and install a drop away rest on the bow. The Whisker Biscuit is ok but I think it slows her arrow down quite a bit. I am not a total speed freak but like I said with her 25″ draw length and 30 to 40lb draw weight she needs all she can get.

All in all the Chaos package deal was nice but if I really had of known she was gonna enjoy shooting as much as she does I would have just bought the bare bow and added the accessories of choice. But then again half the fun is upgrading and findin out what works best for each individual.

As far as the Chaos itself goes it’s a great little bow! If they made them with 60lb limbs I would have one myself for a backup bow.

It’s pretty cool having a girlfriend that’s interested in the things I like to do and wanting to learn to do the same stuff so she can do them to. After hearing me talk about bowhunting and watching me shoot my bow in the backyard she has shown an interest in wanting to shoot a bow herself.

First thing we had to get her was a bow and I knew the most important thing was to find one that would fit her and be comfortable for her to shoot. For years I shot bows with a draw length about 2 inches too long. I just learned to shoot that way and I got by but when I finally got one that actually fit me my accuracy got a whole lot better. So I knew that getting her set up with a bow that had good draw length adjustment was a must so that we would have plenty of room to move up or down in length til we found what felt good for her.

When I started searchin for her a bow I started seein how all the bow companys are makin hunting bows now for smaller framed hunters. They are now makin high performance youth bows that’s great for women and teens. I wish they would’ve focused and had that good of a selection when I started shootin bows. Back then unless you special ordered it most bows were 29″ to 31″ draw length adjustable and that was it. I shoot 27″ now and its alot more comfortable.

I am a Bowtech guy myself and thats actually what I wanted to get her. So I found a youth bow thats made by Bowtech and Diamond archery called the Diamond Razor Edge . It was a great lookin bow but no dealers around here had one in stock, and I didn’t wanna order her one until she could actually pick it up and see how it felt to her, and then be stuck with it if it didnt feel good to her.

PSE Chaos

Found another new bow for 2009 while I was lookin around on the internet. It’s the PSE Chaos. I called the dealer in town and we were in luck he had four in stock. These little bows are pretty cool.they have a full 10″ adjustable draw length range from 17″ to 27″. Draw weights are 20 to 30lb, 30 to 40lb, or 40 to 50lbs. He had three in camo and one in pink camo. Well I think she really wanted the pink one but it was a 40 to 50lb and to hard for her to pull just startin out. Whew, Thank God! Just can’t imagine seein’ a hot pink bow in a deer stand.

The Chaos we got her was the 30 to 40lb. Set at 30lbs she could get it back without struggling to much. It came with a 6 arrow quiver ,3 pin fiber optic sight, peep sight, and whisker biscuit arrow rest all setup and ready to shoot. Picked her up a 1/2 doz PSE Carbon Force STL hunter arrows and I was ready to get her home and get her started shootin!

The first few times she shot it was ok but her arm would give out pretty quick and we had to play with her draw length and peep quite a bit to get her where it felt best to her. All in all though (after killin’ a couple of boards in the fence and gettin a couple of pass thrus on the metal storage shed) shes doin great! Still playin with her form a little but at 10 to 15 yards shes dang near bustin the nocks on her arrows! I’m so proud of her!

Got her shootin a couple times a week since its stopped rainin’ so much here. She’s not havin nearly as hard of a time drawin the bow now and her bow arm does not give out nearly as quick as when she first started. A couple more months of shooting sessions a few times a week we will be able to crank the poundage up to 40lbs easily and start gettin her ready to bow hunt some pigs! Hope to be postin a story about her first bow hunt soon!
