My Bowhunting Rig

It’s always fun and cool to get new huntin’ stuff to play with! I have been playing with the idea of  getting a new bow for the last couple of years. But to tell the truth, I have not really seen any that I like any better than the rig I have!

Bowtech Extreme VFTMy current rig is a 2004 Bowtech Extreme VFT and even though it’s 5 years old, it still offers most of the speed (326 to 333 ibo) and smooth shooting  technology as the newest models. So rather than spend $600 dollars or so on something I probably won’t be any more satisfied with than what I already have,  I decided to just tweak mine up a little and shoot it another year or so, or at least until I see another I just cannot live without and can afford!

The first thing new I added to my bow was a string suppressor called the BowRattler. I shot a few times with and without it installed and I can definately feel and hear a difference when it’s not on the bow. The vft has always been pretty much a vibration-free smooth shooter,  but with the Bow Rattler installed it  just sit’s there dead in my hand after the shot. I can’t feel anything after the release, it’s almost as if I never fired the arrow! It was already quiet, but now it is even quieter than before, all I hear is the arrow hittin’ the bag target. Needless to say I am sold on string suppressors, and now I know why almost all of the new bows today come with them already installed from the factory! Michele’s Chaos will also have one installed on it pretty soon as well!

I also purchased a new VaporTrail string and cable set for my bow. I have not used Vapor Trail strings before but from the reviews I have read about them they are made to be as good in quality as Winners Choice. I have been shootin’ the same Winners Choice string  on my bow for 3 years and to be honest it is still in good shape, I’m only changing it  because my cable is showing some wear around the cable slide,  and I figure it’s better to go ahead and replace them both rather than replace just one if they have some age on them like mine.

The rest of my setup will remain the same,  because it works great and has givin’ me zero problems!  My rest is a Vital Bow Gear Bowtech Vital Drop Rest, my sight is Impact archery’s cosmic airlite single pin slider, and it is without a doubt one of the brightest pins on the market, even without the use of  a pin light. I have the Simms S-Coil stabilizer on my bow, and a  four arrow quiver by Bowtech. I also use the Scorpion peep sight with the rubber tube aligning system, I know it robs some arrow speed but I like knowing my peep ain’t gonna rotate on me at the moment of truth!

I did decide to try a D-Loop  for the first time this year,  I really like it better than shootin off the string so far, but the verdict is still out for me yet. Guess I just gotta shoot it a little while longer to convince myself it’s not gonna move up the string on me!

Well that is my bowhunting rig,  and so far it is the perfect setup for me. I am gonna try and get one of those bow mounted video cameras that screw in the stabilizer hole to video some hunting footage this fall. Just gotta do a little more research on them to figure out which is best for the money!

    David,
Reading about your bow and also getting ready to put a cam on my bow.
First tell me if I am getting a good deal on a similar bow to yours fully loaded for $200?
In relation to the camera set up I have a Samsung digital video cam that shoots cinema quality and has a built in shake suppressor. 10 x optical zoom.
Model No. is SC-X105L. It is the size of a cigarette packand has a screw fitting under neath that could be adapted to fit into the stabilizer socket for filming.Frank.

    Hello Frank,
If the bow is in good shape it is well worth $200.00. As a matter of fact it is a steal at that price. As far as the camera, I have not really tried any yet, but would be interested to hear how that setup works for you when you get it installed.

  1. [...] These chickens are so big for their pants, they even think it’s OK to crap all over the patio. You know, because they own it or something. David brought a special attachment over to put on the water hose and power wash the patio. It looks pretty good for about 5 minutes. I can sense his frustration already. He mentioned something about shooting a few chickens with his bow… [...]
