Michele’s New Bow
It’s pretty cool having a girlfriend that’s interested in the things I like to do and wanting to learn to do the same stuff so she can do them to. After hearing me talk about bowhunting and watching me shoot my bow in the backyard she has shown an interest in wanting to shoot a bow herself.
First thing we had to get her was a bow and I knew the most important thing was to find one that would fit her and be comfortable for her to shoot. For years I shot bows with a draw length about 2 inches too long. I just learned to shoot that way and I got by but when I finally got one that actually fit me my accuracy got a whole lot better. So I knew that getting her set up with a bow that had good draw length adjustment was a must so that we would have plenty of room to move up or down in length til we found what felt good for her.
When I started searchin for her a bow I started seein how all the bow companys are makin hunting bows now for smaller framed hunters. They are now makin high performance youth bows that’s great for women and teens. I wish they would’ve focused and had that good of a selection when I started shootin bows. Back then unless you special ordered it most bows were 29″ to 31″ draw length adjustable and that was it. I shoot 27″ now and its alot more comfortable.
I am a Bowtech guy myself and thats actually what I wanted to get her. So I found a youth bow thats made by Bowtech and Diamond archery called the Diamond Razor Edge . It was a great lookin bow but no dealers around here had one in stock, and I didn’t wanna order her one until she could actually pick it up and see how it felt to her, and then be stuck with it if it didnt feel good to her.
Found another new bow for 2009 while I was lookin around on the internet. It’s the PSE Chaos. I called the dealer in town and we were in luck he had four in stock. These little bows are pretty cool.they have a full 10″ adjustable draw length range from 17″ to 27″. Draw weights are 20 to 30lb, 30 to 40lb, or 40 to 50lbs. He had three in camo and one in pink camo. Well I think she really wanted the pink one but it was a 40 to 50lb and to hard for her to pull just startin out. Whew, Thank God! Just can’t imagine seein’ a hot pink bow in a deer stand.
The Chaos we got her was the 30 to 40lb. Set at 30lbs she could get it back without struggling to much. It came with a 6 arrow quiver ,3 pin fiber optic sight, peep sight, and whisker biscuit arrow rest all setup and ready to shoot. Picked her up a 1/2 doz PSE Carbon Force STL hunter arrows and I was ready to get her home and get her started shootin!

The first few times she shot it was ok but her arm would give out pretty quick and we had to play with her draw length and peep quite a bit to get her where it felt best to her. All in all though (after killin’ a couple of boards in the fence and gettin a couple of pass thrus on the metal storage shed) shes doin great! Still playin with her form a little but at 10 to 15 yards shes dang near bustin the nocks on her arrows! I’m so proud of her!

Got her shootin a couple times a week since its stopped rainin’ so much here. She’s not havin nearly as hard of a time drawin the bow now and her bow arm does not give out nearly as quick as when she first started. A couple more months of shooting sessions a few times a week we will be able to crank the poundage up to 40lbs easily and start gettin her ready to bow hunt some pigs! Hope to be postin a story about her first bow hunt soon!
